Artist Information

Scorpions are a German hard rock band formed in Hanover in 1965 by guitarist Rudolf Schenker. The longest-running line-up of the band, active from 1978 to 1992, included Schenker, Klaus Meine on vocals, Matthias Jabs on lead guitar, Francis Buchholz on bass, and Herman Rarebell on drums. Schenker has been the only continuous member, while Meine has been with the band since 1969, Jabs since 1978, and bassist Paweł Mąciwoda and drummer Mikkey Dee joined in 2003 and 2016, respectively. The band's debut album, "Lonesome Crow" (1972), featured Michael Schenker on lead guitar, who later left to join UFO and was replaced by Uli Jon Roth. Roth played on the next four studio albums, "Fly to the Rainbow" (1974), "In Trance" (1975), "Virgin Killer" (1976), and "Taken by Force" (1977), as well as the live album "Tokyo Tapes" (1978). After Roth's departure, Matthias Jabs joined and the band shifted towards a more melodic rock style with the release of "Lovedrive" (1979), which included a brief reunion with Michael Schenker. Throughout the 1980s and early 1990s, Scorpions released several albums, including "Animal Magnetism" (1980), "Blackout" (1982), "Love at First Sting" (1984), the live album "World Wide Live" (1985), "Savage Amusement" (1988), the compilation "Best of Rockers 'n' Ballads" (1989), and "Crazy World" (1990). These albums achieved commercial success, with many certified at least platinum in the United States. The band has released thirteen consecutive studio albums that reached the top 10 in Germany, one of which reached number one, and three consecutive albums that reached the top 10 on the Billboard 200 in the United States. Their most recent studio album, "Rock Believer", was released in February 2022. Scorpions have sold over 100 million records worldwide. "Wind of Change" from "Crazy World" is associated with the political changes in Eastern Europe during the late 1980s and early 1990s and the fall of the Berlin Wall, and has sold over 14 million copies. From the album "Love at First Sting", the songs "Rock You Like a Hurricane" and "Still Loving You" are regarded as significant works within heavy metal and rock ballads.
